How does the Wolt POS integration work with or without the Wolt iPad? (iPadFree / Auto Accept)

Understanding both operation modes and why Wolt and MERGEPORT must be configured identically

MERGEPORT

Last Update één maand geleden

Wolt offers two different modes for POS integrations:

  1. iPadFree (Auto Accept enabled)

  2. iPad-based workflow (Auto Accept disabled)

These modes determine when and how orders are forwarded to the POS system.

iPadFree / Auto Accept enabled

This is the default mode, and it is recommended by Wolt for most restaurants.

In this mode:

  • Orders are sent directly to the POS as soon as they are created by the customer.

  • The Wolt iPad can (and should) be deactivated.

  • Order acceptance is fully automated through the POS.

  • Wolt reports that this setup significantly reduces the rejection rate, since orders can no longer be missed on the tablet.

Best suited for:

  • Restaurants that want full automation

  • POS systems that can auto-accept orders

  • Workflows where the tablet is no longer needed

iPadFree / Auto Accept disabled

If iPadFree is disabled, the Wolt iPad remains part of the workflow.

In this mode:

  • Orders are sent to the Wolt iPad first

  • The restaurant must manually accept the order on the tablet

  • Only after tablet acceptance is the order forwarded to MERGEPORT and the POS

Best suited for:

  • Restaurants that prefer to keep using the Wolt tablet

  • Workflows requiring manual acceptance or delivery time adjustments

  • Partial automation setups

Both sides must match: Wolt and MERGEPORT

The configuration for iPadFree must be the same on Wolt’s side and in MERGEPORT.

If the settings do not match, the integration may behave incorrectly.

Possible issues when configurations differ:

  • Orders arrive late or not at all

  • Orders may appear twice

  • Order status updates are inconsistent

  • Orders stay stuck in an unexpected state

This is why it is essential that both systems use the same mode.

Example:

If Wolt has iPadFree enabled but MERGEPORT is configured for tablet-based acceptance, the orderflow will break.

Technical Perspective

Wolt sends orders to MERGEPORT via different webhook statuses.

The two relevant ones are:

Created

– The customer has placed the order on Wolt.

Production

– The restaurant has accepted the order (manually on the tablet or automatically).

The selected mode determines when MERGEPORT creates the order:

If iPadFree is enabled
  • MERGEPORT receives the order at the Created webhook

  • The order appears immediately in the MERGEPORT Controller

  • The POS can process it right away

If iPadFree is disabled
  • MERGEPORT receives the order only when Production is triggered

  • This means the order appears after the tablet acceptance

  • Only then can the POS process it
